Recycling, tap water and energy evaluation are all on tap for the Deerfield Sustainability Commission’s 7:00 p.m. Thursday meeting in Community Conference Room 206 at Deerfield Village Hall, 850 Waukegan Road.

Minutes from the commission’s Dec. 17, 2015, meeting will be considered first, followed by a public comment session.

Energy and Water Assessment programs will be evaluated, with an emphasis on draft tap water resource documents; subsequently, the commission will review commercial and residential recycling rates.

Any additional items required for discussion will be addressed, followed by scheduling of the next meeting and adjournment.

The village’s current tap water initiative includes a brief explanation accompanying a pledge from all residents. According to the Sustainability Commission, Deerfield’s tap water is safe, inexpensive and an environmentally friendly choice.

The commission desires to create a resident network through its website, with individuals’ names and e-mail addresses, to orchestrate the community-wide pledge campaign.

The promise reads in part, “I pledge to: Choose tap water over bottled water whenever possible; fill a reusable bottle with tap water; support policies that promote clean, affordable tap water for all.”

Noting that Deerfield’s water derives from Lake Michigan, the commission encourages all citizens to join the tap water pledge.
