Lake County Law and Judicial Committee gathers updates, weighs proposals

Convening to hear reports and consider new programs, the Lake County Law and Judicial Committee met 10:30 a.m. Feb. 2 in the 10th floor assembly room at 18 N. County St. in Waukegan.

Following call to order and the Pledge, the committee approved joint budget minutes from Oct. 20, Nov. 3 and Dec. 1 of last year as well as Executive Session minutes also from Dec. 1.

Items added to the agenda were discussed prior to a public comment session and old business.

In new business, Circuit Court Clerk Keith Brin and Public Defender Joy Gossman gave reports for December 2015, and the Sheriff’s Office reported a joint resolution approving an MOU with Fox Lake Police to deter gang activity.

The State’s Attorney presented joint resolutions approving continued participation in the Appellate Prosecutor Program for FY 2016 and accepting full funding for the 2016 National Crime Victims’ Rights Week Community Awareness Project. The funds will promote public awareness of crime victims’ rights and resources by purchasing event supplies and covering speakers’ expenses.

In Court Administration, a joint resolution was presented authorizing a case manager position funded by the Behavioral Health Treatment Court Collaborative grant.

Following an Executive Session, the county administrator reported on potential consolidation of 911 services and gave a presentation on the county’s storage and evidence building prior to adjournment.
