The primary race for the Republican nomination for the Illinois State Senate seat in District 26 is still a close race, with Dan McConchie retaining a slight lead with mail-in and late provisional ballots still to count
McConchie leads with 13,445 of the votes tabulated so far. Trailing him are Casey Urlacher with 12,066 votes and Martin McLaughlin with 11,230.
McConchie won Lake County (93 total districts) with 40.67 percent of the votes, against Urlacher’s 31.45 percent and McLaughlin’s 27.88 percent. In Cook County (12 districts), McLaughlin led with 49.84 percent of the votes. McConchie had 26.69 percent and Urlacher had 23.47 percent. Kane County (seven districts) was close between McLaughlin and Urlacher, who earned 36 percent and 35 percent of the votes, respectively, with McConchie coming in at 29 percent.
Urlacher leads McHenry County with 37.96 percent of the vote, against 31 percent for both McConchie and McLaughlin.
Current seat-holder Sen. Dan Duffy is set to retire after his term is up. There was no Democrat who filed for the seat, but they can enter a candidate on the ballot prior to the November election.
