Lake Villa, Park City and Round Lake Park have government pension funds with the lowest funding levels in Lake County, according to the Illinois Department of Insurance.
If the amount a pension fund is obligated to pay pensioners outpaces the funds it has on hand, the fund is in the precarious position of carrying unfunded liabilities.
The healthiest funds have a funding position at or above 100 percent. Any fund whose position is below 100 percent is unable to meet its pension obligations.
