Grayslake FPD responds to 46 fires in 2017

Grayslake Fire Protection District responded to 435 calls in 2017 - 0.5 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Grayslake included 46 fires - 22 structure fires, eight vehicle fires and 16 other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $422,590 in fire loss - or about $9,187 per fire.

The department also received 388 false calls, including six malicious calls and 382 other false calls.

The calls resulted in five civilian fire-related injuries. Additionally, one fire service member was injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Grayslake Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $8,107,058 in 2017.

The Grayslake FPD Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 31 active employees and 12 retired or inactive employees, was $815,970 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $15,999 for every fire in 2016.
