Zion F&R responds to 72 fires in 2017

Zion Fire & Rescue responded to 286 calls in 2017 - 38.8 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Zion included 72 fires - 34 structure fires, nine vehicle fires and 29 other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $139,550 in fire loss - or about $1,938 per fire.

The department also received 213 false calls, including one malicious call and 212 other false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related injury. Additionally, one fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents and five were injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Zion Fire & Rescue had an annual budget of $573,645 in 2016.
