How much has Zion ESD 6 overspent over the past 10 years?

Zion Elementary School District 6 accumulated $5.18 million in debt between fiscal years 2008 and 2017, according to a Lake County Gazette analysis of public schools data.

Spending and revenue data obtained for this analysis comes from the Illinois Local Education Agency Retrieval Network (ILEARN), which is part of the Illinois State Board of Education and collects data annually on school district financials.

Over the 10-year span, Zion ESD 6 reported 33.4 percent more revenue. At the same time, total spending went up 10.3 percent. The resulting deficit grew by 84.3 percent from 2008 to 2017.
