Woodland Community Consolidated School District 50 will hold its first Parent University event of the 2025-2026 school year on October 18. The event is scheduled to take place at Woodland Middle School in Gurnee, Illinois, from 8:30 a.m. to noon.
The district plans to host four Parent University sessions throughout the school year. These events are designed as in-person mini-conferences for parents and caretakers, offering tools and resources to support students at home. Attendees can select which sessions to attend based on their child's academic needs and interests.
Session topics include "Partnering for Success: PBIS in Schools and Homes," "Helping Your Child with Middle School Literacy," "Rise and Read: Families learn strategies to inspire literacy engagement at home," "Supporting K-5 Student with Math," "Navigating the Storm: Supporting Challenging Behavior and Increasing Compliance at Home," "Helping your Child with Middle School Math," "Vaping and Drugs in the Community," "Understanding and Embracing Neurodiversity: Creating a Supportive Environment for Your Neurodivergent Child," "Helping your child with Middle School Spanish Language Arts," "Supporting your K-5 Student with Literacy," "Device or vice? What you need to know to keep your child safe in a digital world," "Together in Two Languages (Supporting your Dual Language Student)," and "Parenting Together: Functioning as a team to provide children with clarity and consistency."
The event will also feature complimentary breakfast, prizes, resources from community partners, and childcare services.
