Community High School District 117 issued the following announcement on Aug. 23.
Antioch Community High School
This year District 117 began a new phase in technology integration, rolling out nearly three thousand Chromebooks to students at ACHS and LCHS. The majority of students, approximately 2,500, picked up their new Chromebooks on August 7th and 9th. Before receiving their Chromebooks, students watched a brief orientation video on the features of their new systems, as well as some tips for safekeeping.
Each new Chromebook is convertible, meaning it can be used in laptop or tablet mode. Each student should soon be issued a stylus, which can be used to annotate on documents, draw, and more. While batteries should be able to last a full school day, charging stations are scattered throughout the school. In addition, the tech help desk is open from 7:30AM to 4:00PM to help out with any issues that may arise.
As the world moves more and more online, it becomes more and more important to ensure that all students in D117 have equal access to the same technology. Furthermore, this new 1:1 initiative should be able to open more diverse learning opportunities, while reducing the physical load students will have to carry from class to class.
It’s an exciting year to be a Sequoit!
