Senior Megan Mitchell leads Grant volleyball

Volleyball1000

Megan Mitchell is excited by the possibilities.

The senior star on the Grant volleyball team that starts five sophomores, Mitchell likes the Bulldogs' chances in a season that some have cast as a year of rebuilding.

“Each one of the sophomores has remarkable talent and definitely holds her own on the varsity court,” Mitchell told the Chicago Tribune. “It’s truly special to watch as they become more comfortable and vocal throughout our play. I can’t wait to see what we can accomplish with such a young team.”

Grant coach Michele Keenan has no doubt that Mitchell, named all-conference as an outside hitter last season, is up for the challenge of guiding the team.

“Megan is the right leader for this team,” Keenan said. “She knows that she’s leaving a legacy. This is a very talented, but young, group. She’s showing them the way.”

Mitchell proved more than ready to take full advantage of her big chance last season. She led the 17-18 Bulldogs with 169 kills and finished second in digs (206) and blocks (17).

Keenan said sophomore middle hitters Anelise Johnson and Jazzlyn Linbo are expected to give Mitchell plenty of the support she’ll need this season.

"Our middles are going to have some very big games," she told the Tribune.
