Grant Community High School District 124 recently issued the following announcement.
The Grant Community High School September Student of the Month is senior Joanna Trujillo, daughter of Martin and Lupe Trujillo of Round Lake Heights.
Joanna's academic achievements include induction into the National Honor Society during her sophomore year and she is currently serving as NHS President. She has been named to Honor Roll and Scholars’ List and her GPA is 4.81. She has been nominated for World Affairs Seminar, Illini Girls’ State, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, and for the Illinois Leadership Seminar where she became the Community Service Director for 2017/18.
Her extracurricular activities include current President and past Parliamentarian of FBLA, Captain of the freshman Soccer Team, Bulldog Buddies, Big Dawg Mentor, Health and Wellness Committee member, Student Council member, Class Council member, and Spanish Tutor.
Joanna participates in the service options through NHS but her favorite involvement opportunities are with Palombi Middle School and Children’s Miracle Network. She works with her former middle school Spanish teacher to provide those students with a “Spanish Party” to share her culture, including authentic foods and piñatas. The Children’s Miracle Network allows her to volunteer to help raise money for that charity.
In addition to all of her activities, Joanna presently works at Kohl’s in Round Lake and formerly worked weekends at McDonalds. She enjoys drawing, soccer, working with kids and spending time at her grandparents’ farm in Mexico.
Her plans for the future include earning a teaching degree and coming back to teach at Grant High School. She is currently evaluating her university options.
