Village of Lake Zurich issued the following announcement on Nov. 2.
Lake Zurich has received special recognition from America in Bloom (AIB) for its beautiful landscaped areas. Top honors for the prestigious 2018 America in Bloom National Awards Program were announced at the annual symposium held in Lexington, KY on September 29, 2018.
Bill Hahn and Steve Zwiep, AIB judges, spent two days this past summer touring Lake Zurich, meeting municipal officials, residents, and volunteers.
The judges ranked Lake Zurich highly in:
- Commercial shopping districts, due to a local ordinance that requires developers to incorporate landscaping into their development plans, creating a welcoming environment for patrons.
- The industrial park, which operates in a similar fashion, with the addition of earth berms and trees, along with generous shrubs and ornamental grasses. The landscaping and highly-vegetated nature of the industrial area creates a nearly park-like setting that makes it stand out among other municipal industrial centers.
- Service clubs have aided in this recognition, such as the Lions Club, Rotary, Garden Club, and Ancient Oaks Foundation whom are very active in the community. These synergistic relationships add value and quality to community life and have also received special recognition by AIB.
