The College of Lake County women’s tennis team recently earned the National Junior College Athletic Association Region IV title by avenging an earlier season loss to Skyway Conference champ Waubonsee Community College.
With the win, the Lancers punched their ticket for the NJCAA Division 1 national championship tournament scheduled for next May in Texas.
“The women did a great job this season,” Coach Jim Love said on the school’s website. “In the regional tournament, every player won critical matches and contributed points to help win the championship.”
For the second straight year, sophomore Sjana Henderson finished as Region IV number one singles champion, while Gabby Diaz and Gabby Palm earned number three and four singles titles, respectively.
Love, voted Region IV Coach of the Year, praised the players for their self-discipline and focus, particularly Henderson.
"She showed great ability to perform under pressure," he added. "And during the season, she improved her volleys and serves, setting a great example with her work ethic at practice."
