Illinois State Board of Election records show that freshmen state Rep. Joyce Mason (D-Gurnee) is one of at least six Democratic lawmakers to take campaign contributions from now-embattled Springfield lobbyist Mike McClain for their 2018 runs.
Records indicate that McClain contributed $200 to Mason’s campaign back on Sept. 27, roughly six weeks before she edged out Republican Sherri Jesiel in the 61st District with just over 51 percent of the vote. McClain, who also once served as a state lawmaker and has longtime ties to House Speaker Mike Madigan (D-Chicago), is now under a criminal federal investigation with the Illinois Policy Institute reporting that federal agents recently stormed his home at the same time they conducted raids on the residences of fellow one-time Madigan operatives Kevin Quinn and Mike Zalewski, a former Chicago alderman.
The Prairie State Wire has previously reported that Mason’s campaign has also received at least $737,113 from Madigan’s political organizations, including at least $183,956 just two weeks before voters went to the polls in 2018.
