Illinois State House District 58 issued the following announcement on Dec. 12
I am very disturbed by today’s news about the ongoing investigation by the Department of Children and Family Services into incidents involving child abuse and neglect at Gages Lake School.
The incidents that are being reported are unacceptable. We need to take a hard look at how children with special needs are being treated at school and how we are ensuring that there is oversight of staffing for proper hiring and training practices. These issues must be addressed by me and my colleagues when we return to Springfield in January. Until then, I will be working with fellow state Representatives and Senators in Lake County to gather more information about SEDOL schools and the changes that need to be made in the upcoming legislative session.
