ILLINOIS STATE HOUSE DISTRICT 53: Walker-Backed Bill to Create Task Force Addressing Domestic Violence

53

Illinois State House District 53 issued the following announcement on Feb. 28

To better help those who may be at risk or victims of intimate partner violence, state Rep. Mark Walker, D-Arlington Heights, recently added his support to House Bill 4262 creating a Domestic Violence Task Force.

“The reality of domestic violence means that too often victims and those at risk stay silent out of fear,” Walker said. “We must do all we can to help those impacted by domestic violence. This task force will ensure that the General Assembly is constantly looking at ways the state can most effectively help those in need of protection.”

If created, the Domestic Violence Task Force would review current Illinois policy and enforcement procedures regarding domestic violence. House Bill 4262, which Walker is co-sponsoring, has bipartisan support in part because a 2018 report from the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence detailed that over a third of women have experienced intimate partner violence, and without intervention, that number will only increase.

“As a legislator, I took an oath to protect the most vulnerable in our state and those needing our help,” Walker said. “We can and should do more to bring visibility and action to the all too many women, men and children who face domestic violence.”
