Last night, the Reopening Committee of Deerfield Public Schools District 109 held their first virtual community update on their planning process, with over 500 people in attendance.

Each of the seven subcommittees (In-Person Learning, E-Learning, Physical Health & Safety, Transportation, Social/Emotional Well-being, Activities/Extracurriculars, and Building Infrastructure/Custodial presented what their groups were working on, using newly released guidance from the Illinois State Board of Education and the Illinois Department of Public Health.

Attendees wrote over 200 questions, many of which were answered live by panelists. All questions were saved by district administration, who are now working to compile a Frequently Asked Questions document that will be found on DPS109.org, and who will reach out to families that may have questions very specific to their child or circumstances.

This is just part of the planning process being undertaken by the district. The Reopening Committee plans to have their initial recommendations completed by July 20, reviewed by the interim superintendents and Board of Education in the days following, and released to the public on July 31.

Please stay in touch with the reopening committee to share your thoughts and questions. You can contact them at reopening@dps109.org and will receive a response within 24 hours.
