Illinois State Senate District 32 issued the following announcement on July 29.
Senator Wilcox is a chief cosponsor of a resolution urging the U.S. Congress to return ComEd’s $200 million fine to their ratepayers in Illinois either through direct payments or by directing the funds to the Illinois Commerce Commission for distribution to ratepayers.
As residents have come to learn, ComEd is paying a $200 million criminal fine as part of a federal investigation into a years-long bribery scheme in the State involving jobs, contracts, and payments.
“The real victims of ComEd’s fraudulent behavior are their consumers, the hard-working families of Illinois,” said Wilcox (R-McHenry). “It is only fair that any financial restitution ComEd is required to pay as part of their admission of guilt goes to those most directly impacted, their customers.”
The $200 million fine will be deposited in the federal treasury, and the U.S. Congress has the ability to direct where those funds are sent.
Senate Resolution 1290 was filed July 29. Once adopted by the Illinois Senate, copies will be delivered to the U.S. Senate Majority Leader, the U.S. Senate Minority Leader, the U.S. Speaker of the House, the U.S. House of Representatives Minority Leader, and all members of the Illinois Congressional Delegation.
