Illinois State House District 64 issued the following announcement on Aug. 6

Reps. Weber & Reick to Host Document Shredding and Non-Perishable Food Drive for Local Food Pantries at McHenry Township Building

State Representatives Tom Weber (R-Lake Villa) and Steve Reick (R-Woodstock) will be hosting a free paper-shredding event and non-perishable food/personal items drive the morning of Saturday, August 22 at the McHenry Township Building.

“This shredding event is a great opportunity for residents to safely dispose of documents with sensitive personal information that can’t be thrown in the trash,” said Weber. “It’s also a great opportunity to support those in need by donating to the food pantry, which is more important than ever right now.”

The event will be held in the parking lot of the McHenry Township Building, located at 3703 N. Richmond Rd. in Johnsburg, from 9:00 AM until 11:30 AM. Residents simply need to follow the signs that guide them through the parking lot and watch as event volunteers collect their shred items and donations. Due to the size of the shred trucks and popularity of similar events in the region, each vehicle will be limited to the equivalent of two paper grocery-sized bags or banker box sized boxes of documents for shredding.

“It’s a pleasure to provide this free document shredding opportunity while also collecting goods for community organizations that provide a critical service for residents throughout McHenry County,” said Reick. “I am always impressed by this community and how we rise to the occasion to help one another through difficult times.”

Residents will not have to leave their cars; volunteers will take the shred items and donations out of their vehicles. As a safety precaution, please follow the marked pathway through the parking lot. Event volunteers will be taking proper safety precautions by wearing PPE and practicing social distancing to every extent possible.

Documents will NOT be shredded on-site, but will be collected in sealed bins and taken to AMS Store & Shred’s facility for destruction. An official certificate of destruction will be provided to each vehicle upon collection. Items collected for the food pantry will assist local families in need throughout the area. In addition to canned goods, food pantries have been asking for paper towels, toilet paper, and diapers.
