Q1 2020 Recap: Parolees in Lake County convicted of crimes against children

There were three offenders convicted of crimes against children released on parole in Lake County during the first quarter of 2020, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by the Lake County Gazette.

The data shows that all of the released offenders among the parolees were men. The median age of the parolees sentenced for crimes against children was 49. The youngest parolee was a 41-year-old man sentenced in 2019, and the oldest was a 60-year-old man sentenced in 2016.

The offender who had been incarcerated the longest was Nicholas L. Herman. He was convicted in 2016 when he was 55 years old. He is now 60.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.
