Chris Kasperski isn’t sure what comes next following his loss to state Sen. Melinda Bush (D-Grayslake) in the 31st District.

“For sure, it’s a time for a bit of soul searching to figure how I can best serve my community, my district and my state,” Kasperski told the Lake County Gazette. “Part of me is really scared to think about what the next two years could bring. I fought long and hard to show the people there’s another way and I would hope Sen. Bush takes a lesson from all this and starts showing up to do her job of representing the people.”

A retired Army engineer, Kasperski based his campaign on ridding Springfield of its business-as-usual way of doing things. In the end, Bush captured 43,900 votes (55.4%) to Kasperski's 35,350 (44.6%).

“I think Springfield is in desperate need of fresh ideas,” he said. “It’s kind of like the old adage that talks about if you keep doing things the same way how can you expect different results and how doing so is the definition of insanity. I was hoping to be the source of new energy because our senator hasn’t done a lot of the things she was elected to do. I think it’s a job where the people deserve to have better leadership.”

Kasperski said he isn’t sure if he will make another run at public office at some point or time. Either way, he said he plans to be a voice for his community.

“I’ll keep an eye on the General Assembly and keep tabs on how they’re behaving,” he said. “It’s past time we put the voters and the residents of this state first.”
