Sate Sen. Craig Wilcox (R-32nd) recently gave his constituents an update on what’s happening with the COVID-19 situation in Illinois.
He started off by saying that it has been one year since Gov. J.B. Pritzker closed schools and disallowed public gatherings of over 1,000 people. Wilcox also said that there have been 76 individual executive orders issued by the governor over the last 12 months and that the legislative branch of the state hasn’t been consulted on any matter related to helping Illinois residents. "After a full year, Gov. Pritzker still insists on going it alone," he said.
Wilcox criticized Pritzker for not seeking the help of other branches of the state government.
Wilcox said he requested that Pritzker’s administration be more transparent with its handling of the coronavirus situation but according to him this request fell on deaf ears.
He also said that the governor’s plans for reopening the state are still vague. Wilcox said that despite the steady decrease in the number of people infected with COVID-19 and the ramp-up of vaccine doses, Pritzker is not showing signs of reopening the state. He said that the “Governor still hasn’t released any details on how the state can move forward toward Phase 5 and some sense of normalcy.”
