Ted Moorman is proud of who he is as a Lake Forest District 115 school board member.

“I am a fiscal watchdog and this past year when we were looking at property taxes, I voted against any property tax increase and I was pushed against by other board members,” Moorman, now seeking re-election as board secretary, said in a video posted to Facebook.

“But we were successful at reducing the property tax increase from 100% of what they wanted to 50%,” he added. “And the people I’m running with agree that we should limit property taxes.”

A lifelong resident of Lake Forest, Moorman is part of the Let’s Do Better slate and has served on the board for the last seven years. He said he graduated from Lake Forest High more than four decades ago and both of his children also attended Lake Forest schools.

Moorman added he’s convinced all of the area’s schools have more than enough funds to do the job that’s expected of them.

“When it comes to how we should spend our funds, we do have enough money,” he added in the video. “The key is to spend it properly. None of us want to take money away from the kids in the process but what we do want to do is they’re funding things properly.”

As it is, Moorman said the Lake Forest school system, at around $25,000 per student, is one of the highest-funded schools in the state. His push for a more responsible way of doing things comes at a time when parents across the state are critical of many schools' decision to either remain closed for in-person learning or greatly restrict availability.

In one instance, parents from at least nine different school districts recently turned out in Naperville for a rally demanding that schools reopen.
