Lake Forest College issued the following announcement on Nov. 5
President Stephen Schutt announced today that Shawn Vogen will join the Lake Forest College community as the new Vice President of Advancement and Secretary of the College on December 1.
Vogen brings expertise and passion to this key leadership position that focuses on strong development and alumni relations programs in addition to major gift campaigns.
For the past two years Vogen has served as Associate Vice President and Philanthropic Counsel for BWF, a national philanthropic consulting firm based in Minneapolis.
Vogen worked at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago from 2015 to 2020 where, as Associate Vice President, he led a development team that secured multiple seven- and eight-figure gifts to support research, education, and patient care mission.
From 2004 to 2015, Vogen served in increasingly responsible positions for the Medical Center and Health Sciences Division of Loyola University Chicago. As Loyola’s Assistant Vice President and Associate Dean, Health Sciences Division, Vogen led development, alumni relations, communication, corporate and foundation relation teams that raised substantial support for education, research, and student scholarships.
In an email to the campus community on November 5, President Schutt expressed enthusiasm about the possibilities Vogen brings to the College: “Shawn is a strong believer in liberal arts colleges and the breadth and depth of the education our students receive. He is eager to join our campus community, lead our talented staff in Development and Alumni Relations (DAR), and raise funds to support our mission and priorities. Based on the goals that emerge from this year’s strategic planning groups, Shawn will help develop and implement the effective fundraising plans we will need to support those important goals.”
Vogen, who graduated from Saint Olaf College in 1993, is a strong believer in the power, potential, and application of a liberal arts education and appreciates and celebrates the strength and diversity of Lake Forest College’s academic programs. Vogen has a background rooted in the sciences; his undergraduate degree is in chemistry, and he later went on to earn a doctoral degree in biochemistry and molecular biology from the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
The Vice President of Advancement and Secretary of the College is responsible for fundraising, stewardship, and alumni, parent and community engagement programs while also serving as liaison to Lake Forest College’s Board of Trustees.
