Lake County Board 2nd District candidate David Spada recently received an endorsement from legendary former Chicago Bears head coach Mike Ditka.
“Hi, Mike Ditka here," Ditka said in a video. "You may remember me as the coach of the Chicago Bears. Well, I have a good friend in David Spada who is a good man — who is running for Lake County Board. And he will do a heck of a job because he loves his city. And I think that is worth it — you’ve got to love what you are doing. And he’s got nothing better to do. Vote for him! He’s a good man. He’ll be one of the good politicians that Chicago has.”
Spada shared Ditka’s endorsement via Twitter.
“I received the most important endorsement for me for Lake County Board. Mike Ditka supports me. Check out the video. Vote David Spada For Lake County Board 2nd District,” he posted.
Spada is an attorney and sports talk show host. He focuses on interviewing athletes on his weekly show TalkZone. According to the Daily Herald, he said as a lawyer, he is used to "negotiating deals and getting the best results." On top of his priority list "is to eliminate wasteful spending and decrease spending in general."
"People are tired of having the highest taxes in the nation and the Lake County Board must do whatever is possible to reduce taxes," Spada said, according to Daily Herald. "I believe the Lake County Government is not transparent enough. There should be more emails, newsletters, and social media briefings on what is transpiring in Lake County."
Ditka himself once mulled running for U.S. Senate in Illinois. In 2004 he considered running against then-Sen. Back Obama. He has called the decision not to run the “biggest mistake he’s ever made.”
The general primary is June 28.
