Rep. Kevin Schmidt (R-Cahokia Heights) is calling on Gov. J.B. Pritzker to honor the promise he made to the people of Cahokia to renovate their water disposal infrastructure.
In a recent press release, Schmidt penned a letter to the governor inquiring about the release of funds Pritzker pledged around the time he visited Cahokia Heights last August. He promised to provide funding for sewer repairs and other upgrades.
In his letter, Schmidt spoke on behalf of the resident in Cahokia Heights, addressing a number of urgent repairs.
“The people of Cahokia Heights took you at your word and have put plans in motion to resolve their water and sewer problems," Schmidt wrote. "The future of these plans hinges on getting the money you promised to them. I urge you to please honor your commitment to the people of Cahokia Heights and release the money you promised to give them.”
Schmidt stresses that the repairs are badly needed, as the water and sewer problems they face are vast, and many residents hoped they could trust him to jumpstart the upgrades.
