The Lake County Board Legislative Committee is considering hiring a lobbyist to represent its interests in Washington.
According to the Chicago Tribune, legislative committee board members recently broached the subject of bringing on a lobbyist in D.C. The board ultimately decided to have staff gather information and then present the committee with options for a full board vote.
“We’re trying to get our share of (federal funding), and make sure it makes its way from Washington to here, into our long list of projects,” committee chair John Wasik said.
Wasik said that he thinks there is more Lake County can do to ensure it gets its fair share of “billions of dollars on the table” in federal infrastructure money, and other funds doled out from the federal government to state and local governments and other organizations.
Lake County Administrator Gary Gibson said that there was a partnership years ago.
Gibson said the county used to maintain a lobbying partner in Washington before ending that relationship around 2009 before Congress fully did away with earmarks in 2011. Lake County currently has a pair of lobbyists focused on the Illinois General Assembly in Springfield.
