The Shields Township GOP is organizing a firearms safety seminar in Lake Forest.

“Shields Township GOP is sponsoring this event to promote legal firearm ownership, use and education of firearms,” the Shields Township GOP said in a flyer.

The event will take place on Wednesday, June 14, and will include various activities. Participants can pre-register at Northshore Sports Club at 28395 Ballard Dr. In Lake Forest or by phone at 847-984-2283. Open-range target shooting will begin at 5:30 p.m. followed by a dinner at 7 p.m. The seminar will cover topics such as handling, shooting, and cleaning firearms, as well as storing them safely. It will also address firearm laws, including the need for a FOID card, obtaining a concealed carry license, and what to do in case of firearm theft. The seminar aims to promote legal firearm ownership and education. While a $25 fee is requested to cover costs, all individuals are welcome to attend, emphasizing that firearm safety is priceless. Additionally, Northshore Sports Club offers the option to turn in firearms for destruction or potential purchase.

“Whether you lean toward strong constitutional rights or stronger gun control, we can all agree on the critical importance that every gun is only used safely and responsibly,” Shields Township GOP said on its events page.

On its website, the organization says it values respect, integrity, open communication, and accountability. It says the organization prioritizes truth, constructive engagement, and civility, while also working collaboratively with the community to strengthen Shields Township.
