Motorists in the Village of Mundelein will need to move their cars off public street parking whenever snow falls with the amendment of the Mundelein Municipal Code. This new law has been implemented to facilitate efficient snow removal, ensuring safer and clearer roadways during snowy conditions.
The implications of this amendment are far-reaching as it changes prior regulations. The Village Board of Trustees planned to remove a section of the Municipal Code that restricts parking when snow accumulation has reached two inches, according to its Nov. 27 meeting agenda.
Further clarifying these changes, the legislation provides detailed guidelines for motorists regarding appropriate parking during snowfall. Vehicles should be moved off the public streets immediately, as the law still restricts parking "At any place on the public streets at such time or in such a manner as will impair the plowing of snow from the streets," according to Section 10.32.100(1)(K) of the Mundelein Municipal Code.
Beyond immediate vehicle relocation, there are more stringent rules defining unlawful parking during snow removal operations. Section (2)(A) defines parking that impedes or impairs plowing or removal from public streets as being unlawful, according to the Mundelein Municipal Code.
To ensure adherence to this legislation, strict penalties have been laid out for violations. Police officers or other designated persons with the authority to enforce parking ordinances will be fined not less than $25 nor more than $750 for each offense, according to Section 10.32.-010(a) of the Mundelein Municipal Code.
