Lake Forest podcast hosts: School choice is ‘to the school's benefit’

Podcast host Joe Weiss said school choice and letting taxpayers choose where to send their education taxes would benefit both the schools and the taxpayers.

“So the four years that your child is enrolled in a private high school, the portion of your property taxes to the high school district are zero,” Weiss explained to co-host Pete Jansons on the Lake Forest podcast. “And the second your little Johnny or Janie graduates from the private high school you go back to paying the taxes again to the public high school.”

“You're ‘like oh my God, you're going to take money away from the public high school.’ No you're not, you're actually going to save the money,” Weiss said. “If you look at the cost per pupil of educating Kids versus the average tax rate in the community it is higher. So it's to the school's benefit to have less kids not more.”
