The Mundelein Tool Library has announced the inauguration of its new woodshop at its Chicago Avenue location. In addition, the nonprofit has also established the Mundelein Woodworkers' Guild, a private club for woodworking enthusiasts.
Situated within the premises of the Mundelein Tool Library (MTL) at 428 N. Chicago Ave., Mundelein, the woodshop is ready to welcome guild members during its open hours on Tuesday evenings and Thursday afternoons, according to a Village of Mundelein press release. The MTL is set to announce additional shop hours soon and encourages both seasoned woodworkers and those keen on learning about the craft to apply for Guild membership.
The Village of Mundelein press release further states that thanks to generous donors, MTL volunteers, and the Village's donation of physical space, the woodshop is equipped with a comprehensive range of woodworking machines and hand tools. These include table saws, band saws, lathes, planers, sanders, drill presses, a compound miter saw, a routing table, chisels, among other woodworking tools.
To gain membership in this exclusive guild one must fill out an application form, complete an orientation process and get certified on safety and proper use of woodworking machines in the shop. This information comes from another Village of Mundelein press release which also mentions that prospective members must agree to Guild policies and procedures and pay an annual membership fee of $10. Additionally, for a nominal fee, Guild members can purchase three-hour blocks of time to use the woodshop during its operational hours.
Shelley Clark, president of MTL expressed her excitement over these developments. "We are thrilled about the establishment of the Mundelein Woodworkers’ Guild and our new woodshop. The MWG will be a benefit to our entire community," said Clark in a statement included in the Village of Mundelein press release.
