The Waukegan City Council has approved the retention of the law firm Elrod Friedman as its corporation counsel, agreeing to pay a $40,000 monthly retainer to the firm. The resolution includes individual attorney's discounted government hourly rates.

According to details from the Waukegan City Council's May 6 agenda, the law firm requested and was granted a 2.7% increase in its monthly retainer with the council's approval. Alderperson Keith Turner proposed the motion, which Alderperson Edith Newsome seconded. The nine members unanimously voted in favor of retaining the law firm.

The council first engaged Elrod Friedman as its corporation counsel in May 2021, as per details from the same May 6 agenda. The government-discounted billing rates for the firm's staff range from $205 for a paralegal to $395 for the senior partners. Notably, these senior partners' standard rates are typically $835.
