A violent suspect was apprehended through collaboration by the Lake County Sheriff's Telecommunicators, deputies, and canine teams after receiving a call at approximately 10:15 p.m. on Aug. 30. Deputies responded to a residence in the 24800 block of West Crabtree Lane, Ingleside.
According to a Lake County Sheriff's Office news release, telecommunicators took the 911 call of a man who reported that his roommate was threatening him with a knife. The victim told responding deputies that the suspect became enraged when he used the microwave. The suspect took a large kitchen knife and began pointing it at the victim, who backed away and ran to his bedroom. The suspect chased him, knife in hand. The victim reached his bedroom, locked the door, and called 911.
The victim informed deputies that the suspect was still in the residence, according to the Lake County Sheriff's Office news release. Deputies determined that the residence was subdivided into different apartments and evacuated other residents due to the suspect's erratic behavior with the knife. The suspect did not respond to deputies, who determined he could have fled from an additional exit on foot before deputies arrived.
The news release stated that Lake County Sheriff's Canine Teams Deputy Andrew Martini and K9 Danno, along with Deputy Matt Savage and K9 Odin, responded to the scene. K9 Danno tracked the suspect for more than a mile through the Grant Woods Forest Preserve. The suspect likely knew deputies were getting close, so he called 911 to report an attack at the opposite end of the forest preserve. Sheriff's telecommunicators determined that it was indeed the suspect making the 911 call and kept him on the phone to narrow down his location. They relayed this information to tighten the perimeter around his location.
K9s Danno and Odin located the suspect, who was argumentative and initially failed to follow instructions, according to another statement from the Lake County Sheriff's Office news release. Telecommunicators encouraged him to surrender, and he was taken into custody without further incident.
Sebastian Homuth, 30, was taken to Lake County Jail but refused to go through the booking process. He will appear in First Appearance Court on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, disorderly conduct/misuse of 911, and resisting a police officer. The Round Lake and Lake Villa Police Departments assisted in this incident.
