Lake County Public Works will begin its semi-annual hydrant flushing program on Sept. 9, weather permitting. The anticipated completion date is Oct. 25.

According to a Lake County Public Works bulletin, the flushing will be performed between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, following a hydrant flushing schedule. It will continue until all water mains through the county water systems have been flushed.

The bulletin stated that residents may notice a slight discoloration of their water during and immediately after flushing due to the disturbance in the water main. "It is not harmful and will dissipate after a short time," it said.

The bulletin urged residents not to do laundry during periods of flushing in their area to avoid clothing stains. After flushing is done in an area, residents should run cold water for several minutes to clear their pipes.

The Public Works department will post signs in each area before the start of hydrant flushing, according to the bulletin.
