FOIA Request to City of North Chicago Regarding Building Permits on October 30, 2024.
In our continued commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at the Lake County Gazette have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City of North Chicago. The request, dated October 30, 2024, seeks access to records pertaining to residential and commercial building permits issued within the city.
Specifically, we have requested a list of all new residential and commercial building permits issued from January 1, 2023, till the present date. The information sought includes the type of permit, date issued, fee paid, requester's name, address of the property in question and contractor's name.
In addition to this, we are also seeking details about all active residential and commercial building permits currently in place within the city. Similar data fields as those for new permits have been requested for these active permits as well.
As a media organization dedicated to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, we believe that access to such records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. We also believe that as a media organization disseminating information for public benefit, we qualify for a fee waiver under FOIA regulations.
We await response from the City of North Chicago regarding our request and will keep our readers updated on any developments.
