FOIA Request to Hawthorn Woods Police Department Regarding Comprehensive Arrest Records on December 12, 2024.
As a part of our ongoing efforts to ensure transparency and accountability in local government affairs, we at the Lake County Gazette have submitted a request for information under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140). The request was sent to the Hawthorn Woods Police Department in Illinois on December 12, 2024.
The records we are seeking include a comprehensive list of all arrests made from January 1, 2018, up until the present date. We have specifically asked for information that includes the arrestee's name, date of arrest, gender, race, date of birth, and the crime committed.
We believe that access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities as journalists. This includes holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As members of the media engaged in news gathering and reporting activities, we have also requested a fee waiver as per provisions available for media professionals.
