FOIA Request to Gurnee Police Department Regarding Arrest Records from 2018 to Present on December 12, 2024.
As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at the Lake County Gazette have sent a request under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140) to the Gurnee Police Department. The request, sent on December 12, 2024, seeks a list of all arrests made by the department from January 1, 2018, up until the present date.
The specific details requested include the arrestee's name, date of arrest, gender, race, date of birth and the crime committed. We have asked for this information in an electronic format for ease of access and review.
As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
