Alderperson Keith E. Turner | City of Waukegan
The Municipal Officers' Electoral Board of the City of Waukegan is set to review objections to Ann Taylor's nomination papers for her candidacy as mayor in the upcoming April 1, 2025, consolidated election. The hearings are scheduled for Tuesday at 2 p.m.
According to documents attached to the electoral board's agenda and filed by Keith Turner, another mayoral candidate, Taylor allegedly missaid her address 67 times as "5510 Fairmount Road, Waukegan, Lake County, Illinois 60048," while her legal address is reportedly in Libertyville. Turner also claims that Taylor submitted 546 signatures on her petition, exceeding the maximum allowable number of 362 by 184. He argues that these discrepancies render the documents invalid and has requested that Taylor's name be removed from the ballot.
A second objection was filed by Margaret Carrasco, a resident of Waukegan. Carrasco also challenges Taylor's candidacy based on the alleged address discrepancy. Her petition claims that Taylor made false statements in her nomination papers.
Carrasco further alleges that Wayne Taylor, Ann Taylor's husband, circulated 90% of the petition sheets and recorded an incorrect legal address on them. She contends that the notary who signed off on these sheets did not verify Wayne Taylor's legal address against his driver's license or U.S. passport, both listing his address as Libertyville.
Carrasco asserts that the circulator's affidavit is intended to prevent fraudulent signatures and maintain political process integrity. She argues that due to these irregularities and insufficiencies in the nomination papers, they do not comply with the Illinois Election Code and has called for Ann Taylor's name to be removed from the April 2025 ballot.
