A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the North Shore School District 112 on January 13, 2025, by us at the Lake County Gazette. The request sought details about the number of non-U.S. citizens, often referred to as "migrants" or "illegal aliens," currently enrolled in the school district.
As a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we believe that access to public records is crucial for our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we have requested a fee waiver as media professionals.
The Illinois Report Card states that in 2023, the average state teacher salary was $73,916, while the average administrative salary stood at $116,908. The student-to-administrative ratio averaged at 141:1 and the student-to-teacher ratio at 17:1. Furthermore, it was reported that 58% of teachers in Illinois hold a master's degree or higher.
We await a response from North Shore School District 112 regarding our FOIA request and will continue our commitment to reporting on important local governmental affairs.
