FOIA Request to Lake County Election Division Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025. The request, sent by us at the Lake County Gazette, seeks comprehensive information about all candidates running in the upcoming spring election.
In our commitment to provide accurate and comprehensive news coverage on local governmental affairs, we have invoked the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. We have requested this information preferably in an electronic format for ease of dissemination and analysis.
The specifics of our request include a list of all candidates that are running for the upcoming election. We have asked for each candidate's first name, middle name, last name, the office they are running for, jurisdiction of the office and their party affiliation.
Additionally, we have also requested all contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number and email address.
As a media organization dedicated to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. We believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional due to our role in disseminating this important information to the public.
