Adam Chandler, a journalist and author based in New York City, will discuss his book on March 5 at 7 p.m. The event, part of the FAN (Family Action Network) series, will be hosted by interviewer Kathy Gilsinan.

Chandler's work explores the limitations of hard work, grit, and ambition as sole determinants of success. His research involved traveling across the United States and interviewing a diverse range of individuals including teachers, civic leaders, elected officials, faith leaders, blue-collar workers, and entrepreneurs.

"It''s a myth that success is a matter of individual ingenuity and bootstrapping," Chandler said. He argues that while self-reliance is commendable, it is not sufficient on its own. According to Chandler, humans are an interdependent species whose achievements are deeply rooted in connections with others.

Chandler is a former staff writer at The Atlantic. His presentation will be conducted via Zoom.
