In a recent message, Superintendent Dr. Mark B. Skertich addressed the community on various topics concerning the school district. The communication was delivered via video, with transcripts available in both English and Spanish.

Dr. Skertich began by highlighting the use of e-learning days during the past winter. He acknowledged that while these days are not ideal, they serve as a preferable alternative to extending the school year into June. "While we know it isn’t ideal, it does help us avoid adding days to the end of our school calendar in June," he said.

The superintendent also discussed proposed legislation that could impact how schools schedule their calendars. If passed, this legislation would maintain the current method of counting instructional days but add an option for counting instructional hours instead.

A significant portion of his message focused on safety within schools. Starting March 20th, new procedures will be implemented for visitors entering any District #201 building. These changes are part of ongoing efforts to enhance safety measures for students and staff.

Dr. Skertich took time to commend Mr. Newell and student volunteers from ALHS and ELCAA who participated in a recent cleanup effort following flooding at EAWR High School's Memorial Gymnasium. Their hard work was praised as they spent an entire morning assisting with cleanup duties.

Looking ahead, Dr. Skertich reminded families that spring break is scheduled for March 24th-28th.
