The home opener for the Coal City Coalers Softball Team, marking its first game on the newly renovated field, was held Friday, March 21. The team hosted Prairie Central and secured a victory.
The game commenced with both teams meeting at home plate alongside umpires Frank “Butch” Skubic, Ken W. Miller, and Jeff Emerson, all hailing from Coal City. Notably, Miller and Skubic are Illinois Coaches Association Softball Umpire Hall of Famers—inducted in 2019 and 2023 respectively.
