The Village of Hawthorn Woods has announced its annual Arbor Day Tree Sapling Giveaway, aimed at promoting environmental stewardship and community engagement.

Residents can collect free tree saplings on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at the Hawthorn Woods Aquatic Center located at 94 Midlothian Road. The event will run from 9:00 a.m. to noon.

Available species for this year's giveaway include American Plum, Black Cherry, Grey Dogwood, Red Oiser Dogwood, and Sycamore. In addition to the saplings, free pollinator seed packets provided by the Hawthorn Woods in Bloom Committee will also be distributed while supplies last.

Information about proper tree planting techniques and ongoing care will be available to attendees. The initiative underscores the various ecological and economic benefits trees offer communities--from energy conservation and natural habitat enhancement to human health advantages and municipal cost savings.

"Trees provide a variety of ecological and economic benefits to any community in the form of energy conservation, natural habitat enhancement, human health advantages, and municipal cost savings," said a statement from the village.

The event is part of Hawthorn Woods' ongoing efforts towards environmental stewardship celebrating Arbor Day.
