Lake Forest Schools have announced that the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) testing for grades 3-8 will be conducted from April 3 to April 10. This announcement was made in a press release.
According to Lake Forest Schools, testing for grades 5-8 is scheduled for April 3-4, while testing for grades 3-8 will occur from April 8-10. Parents are advised to ensure their children bring a fully charged iPad, wired headphones, and a book to read during any extra time. A healthy breakfast is also recommended to help students maintain focus.
The IAR is an assessment designed to measure student proficiency in English language arts and mathematics for public school students in grades 3-8. It aligns with the Illinois Learning Standards and Common Core. The Illinois State Board of Education has said that this year, the Illinois Administration Platform has replaced the previous platform, introducing a new process for managing IAR testing. This includes updated test coordinator resources and training modules. Field testing for 2025 will involve a small percentage of students, and schools must keep their contact information accurate in the Entity Profile System to receive assessment updates.
The IAR evaluates students' skills in English language arts and mathematics across grades 3-8, focusing on reading comprehension, writing, and problem-solving. Results are reported in five performance levels ranging from "Did not yet meet expectations" to "Exceeded expectations." The state has provided new resources such as test blueprints and rubrics for both English language arts and math. Educator committees have been engaged to revise performance-level descriptors for better alignment across all content areas.
