The Friends of the Lake Bluff Library has announced continued changes and developments at the Lake Bluff Public Library in 2025, including welcoming Natalie Starosta as the new Library Director.

The Friends of the Lake Bluff Library is a dedicated group supporting the library's mission to provide essential services and resources to the community. The organization takes pride in its philanthropic support.

"Did you know that our community’s generous donations have enabled us to make significant improvements to the library?" said the Friends. These improvements include purchasing new furniture, updating computer stations, funding summer reading programs, and supporting various community events.

Recent challenges related to maintaining an aging building, budget limitations, and operational demands have created a need for more urgent support. Significant infrastructure needs remain, particularly in bringing the building up to ADA standards and ensuring safety and security for staff and patrons. Budget shortfalls have also led to reduced operating hours and staffing levels.

"You may be surprised to know that only 2.5% of your tax bill goes to the Lake Bluff Library while other suburban Chicago libraries receive as much as 6.0%, " noted the Friends.

The organization emphasizes that every contribution will directly impact the library, its patrons, and the community. "Together, we can ensure the library remains a vibrant and valuable asset for everyone," they added.

The Friends expressed their gratitude for past support and urged continued contributions: "Thank you for considering our request. "

Members of The Friends include Margaret Abel, Claire Abrahamson, Mary Dahlmann, Edye Draegert, Brittany Dressler, Wendy Engelland, Cris Graham, Eva Javier, Ken Kasel, Linda Kennett, Eileen Laack, Liz Mayer, and Missy Romanoff.

The Friends of the Lake Bluff Library is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. Donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
