A motorcycle driver sustained life-threatening injuries after colliding with a garbage truck in unincorporated Antioch. The incident occurred at approximately 10:25 a.m. on April 15, when the motorcycle struck the rear of the truck as it was making a left turn into a parking lot.

According to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office, deputies arrived at the scene located at Grass Lake Road and West Park Avenue to find the motorcycle driver unresponsive.

The preliminary investigation by the Sheriff's Office determined that a 2019 Mack garbage truck, operated by a 46-year-old man from Ingleside, was traveling eastbound on Grass Lake Road. A 2017 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, driven by a 35-year-old man from Spring Grove, was following behind.

The release said that as the garbage truck driver slowed down to make a left turn into a parking lot, the motorcycle attempted to pass on the left and collided with the rear of the truck during its turn. The motorcyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, suffered critical injuries and was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

The Sheriff's Office reported that the garbage truck driver was unharmed and is cooperating with authorities. The speed of the motorcycle is considered a factor in this crash. The Lake County Sheriff's Office Technical Crash Investigations Team is continuing its investigation into the accident.
