The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is alerting residents about a potential rise in ruse burglaries, often correlated with weather changes. These incidents involve individuals posing as service workers, delivery personnel, or other trusted figures to gain access to homes. Once inside, suspects distract homeowners while accomplices steal valuables such as jewelry, cash, and electronics.

The Village of Deer Park, known for its peaceful neighborhoods, is not immune to these deceptive tactics. The Sheriff’s Office urges residents to remain vigilant to protect themselves and their property.

To enhance safety measures, authorities recommend verifying the identity of anyone claiming to provide a service before allowing them into your home. This can be done by contacting the company they represent using a verified phone number rather than one provided by the individual. Residents are also advised to be cautious of unsolicited visitors and never leave strangers unattended in their homes.

If suspicious behavior is noticed, such as unfamiliar vehicles or individuals loitering in the area, residents should immediately contact the Lake County Sheriff’s Office at (847) 549-5200.

"Together, we can keep our community secure by staying alert and reporting anything out of the ordinary," said a representative from the Sheriff’s Office.
