Dorris Intermediate School (DIS) Interventionist Corina Hamilton was recognized as the March 2025 Kahok Educator of the Month. The award was presented by DIS Principal Kevin Stirnaman and local Benjamin F. Edwards financial advisor Jason Rehg.
In his nomination of Ms. Hamilton, Mr. Stirnaman wrote:
"The Kahok Educator of the Month for April is DIS Interventionist Corina Hamilton. Ms. Hamilton works with some of our neediest learners at DIS, providing them with academic interventions to close the learning gap with their peers. She forms relationships with students quickly and easily and helps them achieve their potential.
"Ms. Hamilton has also been instrumental in the implementation of PBIS at DIS. She's worked with both our Tier 1 and Tier 2 committees and has taken on a data collection and analysis role this year, making sure the correct students are identified for our Tier 2 interventions and their data tracked to ensure the intervention is serving the students well. Next year, she is going to take on the Tier 2 coach role, which is vital to the success of PBIS at DIS.
"Corina has also been a Special Education teacher in her tenure at DIS. In all roles and at all times, Ms. Hamilton has proven herself to be a building leader, a team player and a trusted adult for staff and students alike. Congratulations to Ms. Hamilton for this well-deserved honor!"
Benjamin F. Edwards Financial Advisor and Vice President/Investments Jason Rehg sponsors the award each month during the school year to recognize outstanding educators in Collinsville Community Unit School District #10.
* By definition, an interventionist in a school setting is a professional who provides targeted support and instruction to students who are struggling academically or behaviorally. They work with teachers, students and parents to identify areas where a student needs extra help and develop strategies to address those needs. Interventionists may work with students individually or in small groups, and they play a key role in helping students achieve academic success and reach their full potential.
