Lake County Sheriff's detectives have identified a suspect in the armed robbery of a Beach Park fast-food restaurant that occurred on May 22. Zion Police officers located and arrested the suspect on May 23.
According to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office, detectives followed leads related to the armed robbery at a restaurant located in the 38900 block of North Lewis Road, Beach Park. The release states that they identified the suspect as Shane L. Lones, 41, residing in the 1800 block of Jethro Avenue, Zion. Detectives reviewed surveillance footage showing Lones entering a vehicle. Using Flock cameras, detectives gathered additional information about the car, including its license plate. Zion Police officers subsequently found Lones in a vehicle near his residence and arrested him.
The release further indicates that sheriff's detectives obtained search warrants for Lones' vehicle and apartment. During the execution of these warrants, clothing was discovered that detectives say Lones wore during the armed robbery.
According to the release, the Lake County State's Attorney's Office reviewed the case and approved one count of armed robbery (Class X felony) against Lones. The State's Attorney's Office filed a petition to detain Lones while he awaits trial. A judge ordered on May 24 that Lones be held pending a detention hearing scheduled for May 27.
The release emphasizes that all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
